Texas Instruments Announces Availability of Enhanced, Stand-Alone Telinnovation Echo Canceller

Enhancements to Echo Canceller Result in Higher Channel Densities And Increased Performance

DALLAS, Jan. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- A complete DSP-based echo cancellation solution based upon TI's TMS320C5441 device and Telinnovation echo cancellation software is now available from Texas Instruments Incorporated (TI), a result of TI's acquisition of Ditech's Telinnovation Echo Cancellation Software Unit in April 2002. For telecommunications carriers developing packet-based voice transmission systems, the Telinnovation high- capacity echo canceller has long been recognized as the industry benchmark for DSP-based voice enhancement and echo cancellation. With further enhancements to the echo canceller, including an increase in channel density and improved performance, TI is further strengthening its leadership in voice over packet (VOP) through enhancing this key technology requirement.

The availability of the Telinnovation echo canceller on TI's C5441 DSP, provides customers a complete echo canceller system from which TI incorporates the industry's most widely used echo cancellation technology. TI has enhanced the echo cancellation algorithms of the Telinnovation echo canceller, resulting in an increase in channel densities to up to 128 channels per system. DSP-based echo canceller solutions are fully programmable and flexible, providing clear advantages over ASIC-based solutions. In today's dynamic environment, this effectively protects the solution from obsolescence created by changing network standards and customer requirements.

"In addition to delivering complete, carrier class Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) software and silicon solutions, TI can now offer its customers a high performance stand-alone echo canceller system," said Bill Simmelink, general manager of TI's voice over packet business unit. "The availability of the enhanced Telinnovation echo canceller reflects our commitment to delivering a superior product to market, as well as our focus on winning the echo canceller systems business."

Echo cancellation is regularly specified as an essential element of new equipment purchased by service providers migrating to packet-based architectures. Echo cancellation software algorithms are embedded in programmable DSPs to eliminate the echo effect caused by signal reflections of the speaker's voice as it crosses a variety of voice transmission systems. The Telinnovation echo canceller has long been heralded as the industry standard for voice enhancement and echo cancellation.
